Car Kit For Nokia E50

Jaro 20. August 2007 :: , ,

The following article was submitted by Dale via email. Thanks Dale!

I’ve had a CK-7W car kit installed (full install with phone holder) and after lots of searching on the internet, I found lots of people on the discussions section of the Nokia site having problems. Basically the E50 only works with the CK-7W via Bluetooth, not the pop port. So what’s the point of having a fully integrated hands free kit with phone holder if it doesn’t really work. All you can do if the phone is in the holder and plugged in is answer a call and end a call. The ‘button’ doesn’t work and you have to use the handset.

If you connect via Bluetooth it works perfectly, but what’s the point in spending £300 to have a kit installed if it doesn’t really work. In fact a £70 Bluetooth adapter that plugs into your cigarette lighter has more functionality.

If you have an E50 running earlier versions of the firmware (not sure what version) then according to Nokia it will work fully with the CK-7W, but I can confirm that the 7.05 firmware doesn’t.

If you read the Nokia site it does not highlight this problem anywhere, but if you read the compatibility list all the other Eseries models only work via Bluetooth. Although the person from Nokia said these phones are listed as Bluetooth only as there is no phone holder, not that it wouldn’t work via the pop port.

As you can see lots off odd info going around. From my searching I have found the the CK-20W should work fully with the E50 and haven’t found anyone with problems with this combination.

I hope this information helps others.

Dale

    What is this article about anyway? I use the CK-7W carkit with the CR-66. I DON’T connect to the kit with bluetooth. I DO use the pop port. I CAN use the little handsfree button. All conversation is very loud and clearly audible through the carkit’s speaker. No echos. Works like a charm. No problem whatsoever.
    And yes, I have the latest firmware 7.13.0.0

    I don’t understand why you are experiencing problems. My guess is a faulty installation of the carkit…

    I have spent the last 2 months or so liasing with the Nokia retail shop, Nokia themselves and the company that installs the car kits. Its not a bad installation

    It is a problem with new firmware of the car kits, earlier car kits worked fine. I am not sure when this problem started, I seem to be one of the few people who have chased it up, if you look on the Nokia forums there are quite a few people with the same problem.

    There is a new firmware for the car kit that now fixes this problem (version 5 iirc) Nokia and the phone company will shortly be upgrading the car kit firmware. I will try and find out how others will upgrade
