Firmware 7.13.0.0 available
Jaro 11. June 2007 :: firmware,
update,
upgrade
Nokia developers are lately rolling out one firmware update after another. Martin sent me an email that he just successfully upgraded his Nokia E50 with camera (model RM – 170) to the version number 7.13.0.0. I checked if the update is available for me too and it indeed was. However I haven’t updated as I’m waiting for a new 2GB microSD to arrive. I prefer having my data backed up on both PC Suite and memory card. No changelog available yet. If you are not sure how to update your phone check out this short guide – How To Update Your Nokia Phone Software.
Previous updates: 7.05.0.0 and 6.41.3.0

yup i updated my camera phone a couple of days ago…
Is it available for the E50 non camera version too ?
[2] merlin, you’ll have to try yourself. Updates are released based on other factors too.
After getting a scary “USB device not recognized”, I plugged it into another USB slot and the update went smoothly. (It didn’t like my external USB hub.)
This time I did not use a full backup. I just used the normal backup program to get my contacts and calendar entries restored. And re-installed everything else. Good way to clean up old garbage.
Did not see any visible changes yet, but finally the custom screensaver seems to work!
Sweet, just updated worked like a charm. It fixed my theme problem too…
it seem more faster..
but still not as fast as Nok. 6500
maybe because it’s cpu limitation of E50
:(
but all apps are gone..!!
i have to reinstall it, even if the apps
installed on the memorycard.
Do not install this software.
I got a new bug with it.

:((
no problems on my phone what so ever…
updated successfully, but can’t tell what’s new… no visible difference. But am hoping that this has got rid of the annoying loudspeaker bug.
Updated yesterday, for now seems a bit faster, having no problems so far, the backup worked perfectly…

hi
i’ve got 6.4…. firmware
Nokia Software Updater doesn’t recognize that for my nokia RM-170 is new firmware because it says that my phone has the newest
is it possible?
It hapens the same to me. My Nokia E50 has a product name 0540078 and the latest available firmware is 06.41.3.0 The Nokia E50 that have a product name 0536233 can update to 07.13.0.0
I can’t even update to 07.05.0.0 and I’d like to have the newest software. Nokia, please, let us download it!!
@ Javier
There is one possibility, but it is risky. You can change your product code with Nemesis Service Suite ( NSS ) and then you can try again. But if you made this change, you may lose your warranty, if you still have it and also when you start the software update, you may lose your native language menu, if you use non-english menu, because Nokia Software Updater uses this code to install the proper language pack on your phone. There are a lot of places in Internet, where you can find the list of all known product codes for Nokia E50 RM-170 and RM-171. On the same places you can find also tuttorial how to do this.
I have several problems with the new firmware. Firstly, the SMS does not show the name of the sender, although the sender is in the contact list.
Secondly, I am unable to install any Series 60 version 3 software after the upgrade.
Thanks everyone for sharing your experience with this update. It looks like there are some problems with phone recognizing caller name.
hi all
it is really bad ubgrading to v. 7.13.0
The phone # of the Caller show in this format : +000 0000000 with no name even if you stor it in Contact list.
this habbend in both SMS & Caller ID
i wish if i can go back to the previus V. 7.5.0
good luck all
@ Philip
Thanks for your indications, but mine is a work cell phone and I don’t want to take risks. And I’d like to see who sends me SMS
I don’t have any of the problems that people above are reporting and it’s been almost a week of using the new firmware… and no loudspeaker bug problems so far (keeping my fingers crossed!!!)
Hi, I haven’t yet upgraded my firmware but am considering it. I found the following info on another forum which may explain the ‘contact not showing’ bug:
————————————————-
“I’ve got a reply from the local Nokia service and they say that this is not a bug, but a feature that will make way in ALL newer nokia firmwares!! :-o
The ‘feature’ is the following:
nokia now checks 11 numbers (before it was 7) and hence the number e.g. 041123456 and +38641123456 mean a tottaly different number.
I guess this issue won’t bother countries with longer ‘base’ numbers, but for those countries that have 9 places in the base numbers (041123456), well, ...”
————————————————-
If everyone who is having the contacts problem can post here which country they are from and how many digits the number has (with and without area code) then people can determine whether they will also get the contacts problem….
Hi, I just upgraded my firmware and I found that phone is litle faster and have litle more free RAM memory (about 0.5-1 MB). And about contacts everithing is ok. format of number in my phone book is +123 12 1234567 or +123 12 123456
injug – what country are you in + what is the equivalent local number for those numbers?
I’m from the UK so nearly all numbers are as follows:
01234 123456 (local)
+441234 123456 (international)
Ollie – I am from Serbia.
Equivalent lokal number will be 012 1234567 or 012 123456 and in phone book I don`t have blank spaces betven groups of number.
Thanks injug, I think it’ll be ok for me because my numbers are even longer than yours. I’m gonna try the update now. Fingers crossed.
Ah well – no firmware upgrade available for me – I’m on 02 branded firmware. Looks like i’m stuck with 06.41.3.0.
I have upgraded my firmware from 6.41.3.0 to 7.13.0.0 and I am getting an error message when backing up thru Nokia PC Suite. I never had this issue before with my E50 phone or the earlier version. I don’t seem to get a good response from Nokia
Italy here :D, no updates available for my E50-2 (RM-171), i’m still with 06.41.3.0
I have a question: the backup saves also the info in the call log (times, kb received and sent and so on)?
Hi
I am from Singapore. Its been frustrating for me too. By trial and errors, I realised that for mobile number, I need to include international code (3 digits): +06512345678 for phone to match number to contact name. Won’t work if I just entered +65
However for fixed line number, caller name don’t show if stored with international code. i.e only enter 12345678
So far so good.
I’m from India and it has been nearly 10 days since I updated my firmware. Till now no problems at all. Notable differences, in my opinion are:
1. The battery life has increased
2. Messaging has become faster
3. No longer getting the “Not Enough Memory” problem in the Web browser
Updating was a breeze and so was restoring the backup from the SD card. Only things I lost were some additional softwares like Officesuite, Golf and IM+ which I reinstalled.
Hoping they’d bundle in the new Flash player (Flash 2) but disappointed to find the older version. Same is the case with the browser. I believe the E61i browser has more features like storing personal information etc.
Take back my comments earlier.
international code only works for sms, if same person call, only numbers shown, no caller id.
new firmware don’t work for those in countries with 8 digits numbers. Big Pain!! Call up local Nokia Service, they ask me to send it in. Argh! After spending hours fiddling with contacts, think this will be end of my affair with E50.
i just installed the new version there is no contact or sms error..it works perfect..more faster.. before i install it i have a problem with speaker..when i answer a call it suddenly open speaker i hope they fix it…and when i imput some operatior codes it restart..but now i tried many times and there is no error..the new update works well on my e 50..
hi i am from India .I am happy with new firmware Phone is working fast now and no hanging problem and speaker bug also battery life has improved but upgrading from internet was nightmare i upgraded through nokia care centre only
Sucks about the international number formatting. Sony Ericsson and Motorola don’t have this problem.
I also don’t see an option for the phone to read the VoiceMail access number from the SIM card, which was supposedly added in the previous firmware update. What am I missing?
sam – singapore here, same problem. this is driving me batty. manually entering numbers for my contacts without +65 is not an option – i have over 1000 contacts. nokia today suggested changing the motherboard to one with old software. good grief.
At last people from Nokia put in their web new firmware for Nokia E50 product code 0540078. I upgraded without problem and I noticed that applications are a bit (and only a bit) faster. After restoring my copy I had to reinstall some programs that I had in the phone. No other problems by the moment.
Hi all,
I have tried to update a phone a few days ago. No new software available (RM-171). Today (05-07-2007 09:18 CEST -1) I’ve tried this and now there’s an update for me. Old version 06.27.1.0 new version 07.13.0.0
I hope that this solves the Bluetooth echoing issue.
Resident of the Netherlands
I had updated my firmware successfully to v.7.13.0.0 but I lost few of languages available. This is not a huge problem the menu language. But it is too bad that I lost input languages. I do live in Bulgaria and I use some IM clients that allows me to be in touch with a lots of my friends. But now I will type too slowly, because of missing T9 for Bulgarian language. If there is solution to fix this – pls help me.
Other way the new firmware is a lil bit faster… and I had no time to test it fully so now.
I updated my firmware , but the quality of sound on the earphones have gone bad.. They have boosted the treble levels or volume . The music is terrible . I didnt have this problem with the earlier firmware. Sadly i cant get back the 6.41.3.0 firmware . Can anyone help me with this problem..
I run the software “nokia update softwarer” attach the telephon e50 RM170 and the software say the last update is “6.41.3.0” . How i do? i download the 7.13.0.0 last software of a site?
By design and features the phone is really is good that why I choose it but its really slow functioning phone. The main problem is sometimes loudspeaker automatically starts upon receiving a call, after finishing the call the phone is hanged up and I can’t even switch it off and switch on. I have to remove the cover, then battery and restart the problem. I’ve been jerking around NOKIA Care for last 5 months but they don’t have any solution available yet. This is the family bug of this phone.
Hi i’m from indonesia. I just have my e50 upgraded to the 7.13.0.0 firmware and it works well till now. I don’t think there’s a bug yet..
:)
Hi folks!
There is a serious problem when syncing with Apple’s iSync.
While transmitting the contacts works so far, it fails with the calendar. This problem appeared after the update from 6.xxx to 7.13.0.0 – after excluding almost all other reasons, it can be lead back to the update.
If anyone has the same problem or even a solution – please post it!
