I was shocked when I first saw this photo from Mahendra. At first I thought it was blood all over the boy’s face. After a while I realised it might be just paint but being unsure I emailed the author and asked him for explanation. Here is the reply:
The boy in the photograph is my 9 year old nephew Kishan Chavda. This photo has nothing to do with marriage celebration. I have take his photo on the occation of Hindu festival HOLI. In Hindu culture HOLI is the festival of colours. It is celebrated on the full moon day in the month of march. On this day all people greet HOLI to each other by applying colour to each other. The colours used may be either in solid forms or water soluble. Red, Green, Yellow Pink and Blue are the main colours that are used. You can get detail of this festival on this link – HOLI Festival.
