Nokia Software Update

A long awaited software update (or firmware update/upgrade as some prefer to call it) for the Nokia E50 is now available. The new software version is V 06.41.3.0 24-10-2006 RM 170 Nokia E50 and you can download it through the Nokia Software Updater. A quick warning before you do anything – do backup your phone! During the software update all your data such as contacts, messages, media files etc. will be deleted.

Why should you update your phone?

A software update usually delivers fixes for the little bugs which couldn’t be fixed before releasing the phone to the market due to time constrains or simply because a bug appeared only after heavy usage.

Is it safe?

Here comes the dilemma. As long as you follow all the instructions you should be fine but there are already cases that people lost all their contacts. I did the update myself and everything went smoothly. I will repeat myself but this is very important – do not ignore the instructions and follow them closely. Backing up the phone is crucial here.

How to do the software update?

If you have never done it before or you don’t feel very comfortable with techy stuff I will soon publish a write up of how I did the update. The instructions on the Nokia Software Updater are very clear but I can imagine it can be bit difficult if you never did it before. So watch here for a follow up article including the step by step guide and the screenshots.

    Camera-free version of Nokia E50 (RM-171) does not have a software update right now.

    Hmm.. That’s odd. My E50 is an RM-170, currently running 6.27.1.0, dated July 10, 2006. NSU reports no update available for my E50.

    i just bought an e50 two days back. its come updated with the new firmware. Is there anything else i should do to improve its performance?
    This is a great site, and i think the e50 is a classy comeback of sorts by nokia, compared to the bulky models previously. i dont even feel like touching them now.

    Hi and welcome to the site. Thanks for your kind words, I’m glad you like the website.

    If you have the latest version of firmware there is no need to do anything :)

    Hello,

    I have a problem with my Nokia phone. I have the older version of firmware, I have checked it with another person, but Nokia software updater says me that there isn’t any new version of the software. I am experiencing a problem with the network signal and improvements on the new version have solved the problem. Could you help me, please?

    Thanks.

    Hi Oscar, unfortunately there is not much you can do if the updater says that there is now new version. Check it later, Nokia releases updates based on countries, operators etc.

  10. Svende :: 10. February 2007

    I bought my E50 in China as I live here. I am very anxious if some of the chinese SW and language disappears. Is it possible to go back if something happens?

  11. Jaro :: 10. February 2007

    Hi Svende, unfortunately there is now way to roll back to the previous firmware version. At least not that I know of.
