Nokia will replace batteries for free
Jaro 14. August 2007 :: battery,
nokia,
replacement
Just a quick note for people having problems with their batteries overheating while charging. Nokia has just announced that they will replace problematic batteries. To find out if your battery is affected go to this Nokia page, scroll down and enter the identification number of your battery. You’ll find it on the back side of the battery.
If your battery is a subject of replacement you will be presented with a form. Fill it out and Nokia will send a new battery to you by post. You’ll be asked to return the old battery in the envelope provided.
Is your battery faulty? Does it overheat while charging?
UPDATE: just to clarify; this is not the place to get your battery replaced. You must follow the link in the article, fill out the form and only then will Nokia send you a new battery.

I entered the 26-char number, but brought me back to the advisory page. I tried with an older n6230 bl-5c battery, that told me it’s not in the list. What to do?
IroNiQ, I’ve got the same problem – seems that Nokia, as usual, did something wrong with their page. Not a surprise after seeing dozens of dead links on their sites.
Looks like we gotta wait a few days to check if our batteries are meant to be replaced.
Anyway – I’m using E50, charging it quite often and I haven’t noticed the problem of overheating.
Well, as i can read it, charging the battery quite often is not only my problem. Is this a common problem?
I had the same problem like you guys but after hitting the submit button again it brought me to another page.
Hmm… It seems that the page is now working well.
I don’t have any problem with my batteries..
IroNiQ – It might be a common problem, but on the other hand I’ve heard a lot of positive comments about battery in E50. Some people even claim it holds around 4-5 days of – as they call it – normal use. To me it’s impossible but maybe it’s just me who uses a lot of third party apps ;)
After checking the page a few minutes ago it seemed to be fine now, thanks for notifying, IroNiQ.
It turned out that my battery is probably affected with the problem. I’ve just registered for a replacement.
Hm… I really have to check if it’s not overheating.
Peter: i just use it as mp3 player, it’s got a quite good sound system, but eats the battery for me.
IroNiQ – that’s right, in fact the rule of battery-eating music playing applies to every single S60 smartphone, as far as I know, so it looks like we just have to live with it. Thank God the battery charges quite quckly :)
Thanks for the heads up, mine was also eligible for replacement. Although I have never had any problem with it.
I checked mine from my old 6230 and it was on the list, so looks like I get a new battery, I’ll use the new one in my E50, and put the old E50 battery in my 6230 for back up….
You’re supposed to return the old battery.
It doesn’t mean that Doug is not going to return the old battery ;)
Has anyone tried using a BL-6C battery for the E50? Both the Nokia website and mobile-review.com says it’s compatible, and lasts longer.
I had tried going on with the page nokia is asking for all the BL-5C user. you just have to give the serial no., it supposed to be a 26 digit no. (or else, your battery is not included). Then you have to fill up the form and submit it. there is an notice which tells you if your battery is included in the replacement (and it works for me). I am just wondering how will they will replace my battery…
Nicole, Nokia will send you a new battery by mail. You gave them your postal address in the form.
Mine will be replaced (e50). It goes empty in 2 days…
2007 is the year of bad business for China…formalin chemicals found on many branded candies and canned goods, high lead content on paint found on Mattel baby toys, now it’s Nokia defective batteries…..well that’s what cheap labor reaps, no offense meant to everybody!
Just checked my battery and it will have to be replaced.
Thanks for the post!
