Things that bother me on my Nokia E50
Jaro 15. October 2006 :: e50,
edit key,
installation,
nokia,
screensaver
Nothing’s perfect and although I’m really satisfied with my Nokia E50 there are a few things I’d like to see improved. Here is my list, who knows, maybe there is someone listening :)
1. I want to be able to run an application right after the installation. A popup note Launch application now? right after the installation would be nice.
2. Location of the Edit key is quite unfortunate. Did you try to press the edit key and the selection key holding your phone only in one hand? Impossible. Well, not impossible but definitely very difficult. Placing the edit key at the left bottom side seems like a better solution to me.
3. What’s with the default screensaver? The font is so small that it’s almost unreadable. I’ve got a good sight but figuring out the actual date is a challenge. Increase the font size of the screensaver!
Most of the other issues like repeated alarm, autolock etc. can be solved with 3rd party applications. Other than that it’s a perfect phone :). What would you improve on your E50?

Definitely with you on the screensaver. Adjustable font size is something I’d like to see. Maybe in the next firmware upgrade?
[1] Although I don’t have problems to read the screen adjustable font size would be really nice. I’m not sure if we can get it through the firmware upgrade but the 4th edition of Symbian should support it I guess.
I hate the touch on the power button – it’s hard to press and you get hardly any feedback since it doesn’t make any kind of click or such. With my previous N6600 I got used to switching the active profile by pressing the power button, but now I wouldn’t even consider doing it.
Mike, I agree with you on the power button. It’s really uncomfortable to use.
No-one getting the crippling Speakerphone bug?
At least once a day, a call comes in perfectly normally, I answer it perfect normally (green button) and the callers voice blasts out over the speakerphone! The phone UTTERLY LOCKS UP. I can’t even hang up, and have to ask my unfortunate caller to end the call.
The only way to restore functionality is to REMOVE THE BATTERY. I left it hung for several hours once, just to check that it wouldn’t recover.
It’s the worst bug I’ve ever experienced in any device.
Plus, why did they take out timed profiles in S60? S40 has them and I used them all the time…
Ben, I think I heard about the bug at the Howard Forums. Hopefully it will be corrected in the next firmware update.
