Nokia E50

Autolock/keypad lock revisited

doug 19. March 2007 :: ,

A while back I remember seeing an article on a 3rd party autolock program, and I remember thinking how odd it was since the E50 is equiped with an autolock function.

It also has a keypad lock function, which is a bit more troublesome to use than on previous Nokia’s I’ve owned. But it’s still there nontheless. To use the keypad lock simply depress the on/off button quickly and a pop up menu will appear, then you can scroll down and select “keypad lock”. Simple, now to unlock just depress the left selection key then the * key to unlock the keypad. However I have noticed a flaw in this function, a bit trivial, seems that the screen doesn’t light up upon depressing a key so that you can tell what you are doing.

The autolock is a bit more involved to set up but it works like a charm once it’s set up, however it involves the use of a “security code” which I’m sure most of you are familiar with anyway. If not then you should refer to the “security code” section in the manual. The default code is usually 12345. To access the autolock go to Tools – Settings – Security – Phone and sim – Autolock period. From there you will select the amount of time it takes for the phone to lock, I usually set mine for about 2 minutes. Then it will ask for the security code again, after that your all set. Then after the amount of time you have chosen, the phone will lock and be useless to someone else unless they have the code. But remember to pick a code that you won’t easily forget.

Free Autolock

One of the things that I was missing in my Nokia E50 was an automatic lock of the keypad. It’s a kind of function every phone should have but for some reason Nokia didn’t put it to the Eseries phones. So I went out there to the internet wild and came back with a free autolock application.

You can download it from here and it should work with any 3rd edition Symbian device.
